In this Workshop, we will explore Oregon’s magnificent coastline. Rugged cliffs, sea stacks, tidal reflections and the Redwoods will be on tap for this group. We will capture the amazing water flow around these towering monoliths using these lead lines to bring the viewer into our image. We will study compositional framing to better the visual flow and how to use time to help tell the story.

We will spend 5 full days traveling down the coastline making stops at Thors Well, Perpetua Lighthouse and many other photogenic locations. Bring your Neutral Density filters to play around with long exposures during the day. We’ll also take time to enjoy some of the beaches in our route down South. There is so much to see in this lesser known stretch of the Oregon Coast, including the spectacular Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor.

Then, we’ll travel a bit further south to experience to majestic redwoods. These are the largest trees I have ever seen and believe me when I say they will take your breath away! We will spend a day and a half photographing these giants in the morning fog where light rays from the rising sun penetrate the dense forest. A scene straight out of a fairy tale!

Don’t miss out on this fantastic adventure!

Overview

In this Workshop you will experience some of the most amazing and raw coast you have ever experienced. Millions of years have formed this incredible coastline and when you see it for the first time, you will know you’re standing in front of something special. On top of that, tis the late season for Astrophotography and it rises early in the evening making it possible to capture the gorgeous Oregon Coast under the Stars and the Milky Way galaxy. We are definitely in on that! On the southern part of our adventure, we’ll be near several Redwood forests. If fog is on the menu for the day, we are there.

We will take you to the lesser known areas of the coast, along with some that have made a standing name for themselves because they are so photogenic. The Heceta Lighthouse and Thors Well are good examples. We will show you how to capture water movement that swirls around these breathtaking formations so that your images have purpose, flow and structure. We dive deep in to grand landscape compositional techniques as well mid range and more intimate scenes. We’ll show you how to “see” compositionally and make sense of more complex scenes that will take your visioning to the next level, helping you to create beautiful images out of chaos. The Oregon Coast is the perfect place to fine tune your skills as an aspiring photographer, as well as advanced. Imagine yourself in an epic land of towering rocky cliffs, crashing waves and surreal foggy light and it will be.

You’ll walk among rugged arches and pebble strewn beaches, with magnificent rock formations and sea drift all around. We’ll take time to check out tidal pools where sea anemones and colorful starfish await the incoming tide. The Oregon Coast is a truly majestic place. Let us share our vision of great Oregon with you!
