Overview:
Embark on an extraordinary journey with me as we witness the awe-inspiring annual Catawba Rhododendron bloom at the Roan Mountain highlands along the Appalachian Trail. This breathtaking event unveils nature's vibrant canvas, offering a rare opportunity to capture stunning images of the blooming Rhododendrons. Our adventure encompasses a scenic hike over the grassy highlands, immersing ourselves in the woodland canopy where these captivating flowers adorn the forest and trails. This highly sought-after tour promises an unforgettable full-day experience, combining the thrill of exploration with the tranquility of the mountain environment.
Itinerary:
We will start our day on the Appalachian Trail Northbound out of Carvers Gap. The Rhododendrons are abundant as soon as we hit the trail and are in select areas all along the AT. There are also Flame Azaleas that bloom at the same time that come in a variety of shades of orange from a very light to very dark orange. And… sometimes the very rare Gray’s Lily blooms a little early and can be seen blooming in and around the these blooms. A gorgeous and fragile red flower that blooms fairly low to the ground. We will learn how to photograph all of these unique blooms using a variety of lenses and some incredible fun techniques! For lunch, we will find a nice shaded spot along the trail and have a trail style lunch that we will prepare in advance. Afterwards, we will have one more go at the blooms in some different light and then call it an amazing day. Prepare yourself for an incredible adventure among the blooms and 360 degrees of 100 mile views covering 3 States!!
